As part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and crime-free yuletide season, the Ekiti State Police Command on Friday embarked on a sensitisation road walk and public campaign against cultism, drug abuse and other social vices across Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
The exercise, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, was in line with the proactive policing philosophy and crime-prevention strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, aimed at promoting inclusive policing and safeguarding lives and property.
The sensitisation walk commenced from the Police Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti and covered major streets within the state capital, during which officers engaged residents on the dangers associated with cultism, drug trafficking and abuse, gender-based violence and other criminal activities.
Addressing members of the public during the exercise, CP Eribo urged residents to embrace peace, shun all forms of criminality and actively support the Police in the fight against cultism and other vices. He also advised citizens to remain security conscious, especially during the festive period.
The Commissioner further encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious movements or persons within their neighbourhoods to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line on 08062335577.
The campaign was organised in collaboration with the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), as part of sustained efforts by the Command to ensure a safe Christmas and New Year celebration in Ekiti State.
The Ekiti State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order before, during and after the festive season.
