Ekiti students who underwent a four-week intensive technology training under the Tech Rangers Initiative have showcased their skills at the Tech Rangers Showcase in Ado-Ekiti.
The beneficiaries, drawn from selected secondary schools in Ekiti, participated in training sessions covering robotics, coding, data analysis and other digital skills.
The showcase, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Civic Centre, provided the participants with an opportunity to demonstrate the practical skills they acquired during the four-week boot camp to their parents, guardians and school principals.
Speaking at the event, the Founder of Tech Rangers, Mrs Adeola Aderonmu, described the programme as the maiden edition of the initiative.
Aderonmu said the initiative was established to provide children with opportunities to acquire relevant skills beyond what was taught in the classroom.
She said every child deserved access to learning opportunities that would expose them to technology and help them develop problem-solving abilities.
The founder expressed concern over excessive screen time among children, urging parents and guardians to encourage them to use technology productively.
She said technology should not merely be used for entertainment but should be channelled towards identifying and solving societal problems.
Aderonmu also announced plans to establish a Tech Rangers Club, adding that the initiative would be taken on a tour of interested schools and organisations.
One of the beneficiaries, Oluwadare Favour, said she had little knowledge of technology before participating in the boot camp.
Favour said she was grateful for the opportunity to acquire new skills and broaden her knowledge during the four-week training.
Certificates of completion were presented to successful participants at the event.
Three outstanding students who excelled in their respective areas of training were also awarded full scholarships.
The organisers said all participating students from schools including Divine Touch International School, All Souls Grammar School, ABUAD Secondary School, Phabyville School and Divine Legacy School, among others, benefited from the training free of charge.
The organisers said the initiative was aimed at nurturing children’s interest in technology and equipping them with practical digital skills from an early age.
