More than 140 secondary schools from the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ekiti are expected to participate in the fourth edition of the Agbeyewa Cup Football Tournament.

The tournament, organised by Agbeyewa Farms in partnership with the Ekiti State Ministry of Education, is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

The organisers said the competition had a total prize purse of N2.5 million, with the eventual winner receiving N1 million.

The first runner-up will receive N750,000, while the second and third runners-up will get N500,000 and N250,000 respectively.

Dauda Lawal, Director of Community Engagement, Agbeyewa Farms, said the tournament was designed not only to promote football but also to encourage discipline, resilience and community spirit among youths.

Lawal said the fourth edition would provide an opportunity for young footballers across the state to showcase their talents.

“We are delighted to host the fourth edition of the Agbeyewa Cup.

“This year’s edition is a promise to Nigerians, particularly those in Ekiti, that they can look forward to a vibrant showcase of talent and excitement at every stage of the competition,” he said.

He said the tournament reflected the vision of the company’s Chairman, Niyi John Olajide, to empower young people to develop their talents and contribute positively to society.

Also speaking, Mr Seyi Aiyeleso, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Agbeyewa Farms, said the competition had grown beyond football to become a platform for youth development.

According to him, the tournament provides opportunities for young people to express themselves, develop discipline, build confidence and showcase their talents.

“The Agbeyewa Cup has grown beyond football. It is about creating opportunities for young people to express themselves, develop discipline, build confidence and showcase their talent,” Aiyeleso said.

He added that the company would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening its relationship with host communities and promoting the development of young people in the state.

The fixture schedule released by the Directorate of School Sports, Ekiti State Ministry of Education, showed that the preliminary matches would be played across the 16 LGAs.

Winners from the various LGAs would advance to the Round of 16, followed by the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

The tournament will culminate in a grand finale at the Kayode Oluyemi Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, on Oct. 28, where the third-place match and final will be played.

The Agbeyewa Cup was inaugurated in 2023, with Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, emerging as the maiden champions.

Omuo-Ore High School won the 2024 edition, while Aramoko District Commercial High School (ADICO) emerged champions in 2025.

The annual tournament is part of Agbeyewa Farms’ corporate social responsibility initiatives and is aimed at promoting grassroots football and youth development across Ekiti.
