The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with an attack on officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ikere-Ekiti.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.
He said the incident occurred on April 2 at about 8:00 a.m., when about 20 hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons, stormed the NURTW Lagos Motor Park in Ikere-Ekiti.
According to him, the assailants arrived in five vehicles and attacked some executives of the park in an attempt to take over its leadership.
Abutu added that the hoodlums also destroyed campaign posters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, in parts of Ikere-Ekiti.
He said upon receiving the distress call, operatives of the command swiftly mobilised to the scene.
The police spokesperson said two suspects, identified as Sunday Ogunsakin and Gbenga Oluwatosin, were arrested, while other members of the gang escaped.
He listed items recovered from the suspects to include three cutlasses, one jackknife and a Toyota Previa bus believed to have been used during the attack.
Abutu said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Michael Adegoroye Falade, urged residents to remain law-abiding and warned against taking the law into their hands or engaging in acts capable of disrupting the peace in the state.
Falade reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting the rights of all citizens.
