The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), in collaboration with the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has assessed facilities at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), used for the practical training of Medical Laboratory Science students.

The accreditation team, led by Prof. Kolawole Oyedeji, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring that students received adequate practical exposure in a conducive professional environment.

Oyedeji said FETHI played an important role in bridging classroom learning and professional practice for Medical Laboratory Science students of FUOYE.

He said the exercise was also an opportunity to identify areas requiring attention and share best practices in the interest of the students, the institutions and the profession.

According to him, evidence-based practice remains essential to effective training in Medical Laboratory Science, making adequate facilities and practical exposure critical to professional development.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director of FETHI, Prof. Kolawole Ogundipe, represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Olabisi Adeyemo, welcomed the accreditation team and assured it of the hospital’s full cooperation.

Adeyemo said the hospital remained open to constructive observations and professional guidance that could improve training and service delivery.

He expressed confidence that the exercise would enable FETHI to learn from the team’s professional experience and further strengthen its existing practices.

The Director of Medical Laboratory Services, FETHI, Mrs. Martha Onyema, who gave the vote of thanks, also assured the team of the department’s cooperation throughout the exercise.

The visit featured the signing of the visitors’ register and a group photograph, after which the team proceeded on a tour and assessment of the facilities.

The team inspected the Histology, Histopathology, Medical Microbiology and Molecular Laboratories, Blood Bank, Cross-Matching Laboratory, call/duty rooms, staff offices, donor bay and Medical Laboratory Science lounge.

It also assessed laboratory equipment, temperature monitoring charts and other operational records.
