A New York-based Nigerian, Miss Faith Jolaade Adeniyi, has distributed no fewer than 150 reusable sanitary pads to female students in two secondary schools in Ado-Ekiti as part of efforts to address period poverty among young girls.
Adeniyi, who runs an NGO known as Project Period distributed the sanitary pads to students of Muslim Grammar School and St. Patrick Secondary School, both in Ado-Ekiti.
Speaking during the exercise, Adeniyi said the initiative was motivated by her desire to give back to society and support young girls, particularly those who might struggle to afford menstrual hygiene products.
She advised the students on the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene and observing appropriate safety measures during their menstrual periods.
Adeniyi encouraged the students to take proper care of the reusable pads by washing and drying them appropriately after use to maintain hygiene and prolong their lifespan
.She said she was committed to supporting girls and women in the society, adding that she would continue to explore more ways to make a positive impact in the community.
The principals of the beneficiary schools appreciated Adeniyi for the gesture, describing it as timely and valuable to the students, while commending her for contributing to the wellbeing and education of the girls.
Some of the students also expressed appreciation for the donation, saying the reusable sanitary pads would help them manage their menstrual periods with greater confidence and dignity.
