The Ekiti State Police Command says it has arrested a 26-year-old suspected cultist and recovered a locally made gun and a cartridge from him in Efon-Ekiti.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti.
Abutu said the suspect, identified as Sunday Samuel of Isare Street, Efon-Ekiti, was arrested at about 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 7, following credible intelligence received by operatives of the Efon Police Division.
He said the operatives immediately commenced investigation into the information, which led to the arrest of the suspect.
According to him, a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone were recovered from the suspect.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ado-Ekiti, for further investigation.
Abutu quoted the commissioner as assuring residents of the command’s commitment to preventing cult-related activities and other forms of criminality across the state.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to the police.
He added that discreet monitoring and security operations were ongoing across the state.
