No fewer than 80 traditional and community leaders across 18 communities in Ekiti West have pledged to mobilise residents against vote-buying and electoral violence ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

The leaders made the commitment during a series of voter education and community engagement programmes organised by the Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The 12-day mobilisation campaign covered communities including Aramoko, Erinjinyan, Erio, Ipole and Ikogosi, reaching over 1,600 residents through market sensitisation, street campaigns, stakeholder dialogues and radio advocacy.

As part of the intervention, a strategic meeting convened by the Regent of Aramoko Kingdom brought together high chiefs, quarter chiefs and women leaders to discuss practical measures aimed at boosting voter turnout and curbing electoral malpractice.

Participants resolved to extend voter education efforts to residents and promote peaceful conduct before, during and after the election.

The campaign also featured a large-scale market outreach in Aramoko, where more than 600 traders, artisans and transport workers received voter education materials and participated in interactive sessions on Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection, election-day procedures and the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.

Organisers described the initiative as a demonstration of the increasing role of grassroots institutions and community engagement in advancing credible elections and strengthening democratic participation in Ekiti State.
