16 Days of Activism: NAWOJ Ekiti Calls for Action Against Online Abuse of Women

‎The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ekiti State Chapter, has joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with a renewed call for collective efforts to end all forms of violence against women and girls.
‎
‎In a statement jointly signed by the Chairperson, Mrs. Adewumi Ademiju, and the Secretary, Funmi Falae, the association emphasized that digital violence against women and girls remains a growing concern that threatens safety, dignity, and equality. The statement noted that this year’s global theme “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls” underscores the urgent need for governments, institutions, community leaders, media organisations, and individuals to commit resources toward prevention and protection in the digital space.

‎Mrs. Ademiju said, “Gender-based violence is not just a women’s issue; it is a societal problem that affects our communities, our economy, and our future. NAWOJ Ekiti is using this period to amplify voices, raise awareness, and call for decisive action to protect women and girls, including in the digital world.”
‎
‎The association highlighted the crucial role of media in shaping public opinion and driving social change. Journalists must continue to use their platforms to expose abuses online, educate the public, and advocate for policies that safeguard the rights of women and girls.
‎
‎The association urged security agencies to strengthen the prosecution of offenders and encouraged families and communities to break the culture of silence by reporting cases of abuse promptly.
‎
‎NAWOJ Ekiti reaffirmed its commitment to championing gender justice, promoting women’s rights, and ensuring that every girl grows up in a society free from fear, discrimination, and digital violence.
