The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Ekiti State Branch, strongly condemned the tragic killing of Mrs. Modupe Alasin of Efon Alaaye, allegedly at the hands of her husband over domestic issues.
This is made known in a press release by the Association Chairperson, Mrs Ayobami Olowoyo-Richards and made available to newsmen in Ado-EKiti.
FIDA described the incident as both shocking and deeply worrisome, particularly in view of FIDA Ekiti’s continuous advocacy and sensitization efforts across the state. “ It is disheartening that cases of domestic violence and abuse remain prevalent despite ongoing awareness campaigns and the availability of legal protections.”
FIDA Ekiti reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on all forms of violence against women. “We urge women experiencing abuse to speak up and seek help without delay. Our doors remain open to provide legal support, protection, and advocacy in line with our core mission to preserve, promote, and protect the rights and welfare of women and children.”
We commend the Ekiti State Government for its sustained commitment to combating gender-based violence and acknowledge the efforts of law enforcement agencies and other state actors who had already taking steps to ensure that justice is served in this case. “FIDA Ekiti will continue to follow up on the matter and closely monitor the process until justice is delivered.
“FIDA Ekiti will also continue to intensify its advocacy and intervention efforts until every woman and child in our state can live free from fear, violence, and abuse.”
