The Ekiti State Police Command has taken into custody for investigation one Helen Kayode, a graduating Student of Ekiti State University (EKSU), who falsely raised an alarm that she was kidnapped along Iworoko/Ado-Ekiti road, taken to an uncompleted building and held hostage by unknown armed men.

This is made known in a press release by the Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, SP Sunday Abutu and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti

You would recall that on Friday 1st May. 2025, Helen Kayode sent a disturbing message to her sister that she boarded the wrong vehicle between Ado-Ekiti and Iworoko-Ekiti road and was kidnapped. She stated further that she was kept and held hostage in a building surrounded with bush. This information activated serious panic in the State especially within Iworoko-Ekiti and Ado-Ekiti metropolis, as it went viral on the social media, causing some reactions that undermine the security and peaceful atmosphere currently being enjoyed in the State.

It was later discovered during investigation that she was not kidnapped rather, she gave false information, as she was with her boyfriend all through the night of that same day before travelling to Lagos to meet her parents.

The suspect confessed during investigation that She sent out the false information to enable her stay back in Ado-Ekiti to celebrate her birthday with the boyfriend who has promised her a ‘surprise package’, which was on 5th May, 2025, as she stated that her Parents were forcing her to return to Lagos against her wish before the Birthday.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, while seriously condemning the act, warns against giving false information especially those that can cause unnecessary apprehension in the society, as those found wanting will be made to face the wrath of the law. He stated that the suspect is still under investigation and will be charged to court soonest, while reiterating the Command’s commitment to the security of lives and property of all residents and the sustainance of a peaceful atmosphere.
