Ekiti State has recorded a surge in the number of pregnant women patronising and giving birth in government health facilities across the sixteen local government areas the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani during a One-Day Dissemination Event themed: ‘From Data to Policy to Action’, at the Conference hall, Amor Hotel, Ado-Ekiti.

He said that Ulerawa Health Insurance programme, domiciled in all health centres at the LGAs had helped in the reduction of child and infant mortality rate in the state as more women now patronise government hospitals for healthcare.

He appreciated the state ’s governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for approving Ulerawa Health Insurance which has boosted the number of people accessing healthcare services.

The Commissioner explained that the basic healthcare provision fund (BHCPF) and the state Ulerawa Health Insurance are two main health interventions in the State that have been offering free healthcare under the Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration in the state.

According to him, the programmes offer free services, including malaria treatment, immunization, maternal and child health services, family planning, nutrition, HIV, and tuberculosis care across 177 health centres in the state, while serious cases presented at the centres are referred to secondary and tertiary institutions for further treatment.

“Every resident of the state is fully covered under the Ulerawa Health Insurance services all across our primary health care and we also have community influencers who ensure that pregnant women register at the government hospitals” he said.

Dr Filani said that there is also a law at the State House of Assembly to regulate the number of quackery in the state.

Also, the Head of Service in the state, Dr Folake Olomojobi commended the state governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for approving Ulerawa Health Insurance programme for every individual in the state.

In their goodwill messages, the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye, Civil Society Organizations, World Health Organization among others urged Ekiti people to make use of the health insurance for the betterment of themselves and improvement of their health.
