The Ekiti State Police Command has warned motorcycle riders in the state to desist from traffic violations and reckless riding, following an increase in motorcycle-related accidents.
The command said many of the accidents were caused by disregard for traffic rules, including disobedience to traffic signals, over-speeding and dangerous overtaking.
It stated that such violations had continued to endanger the lives of riders, passengers, pedestrians and other road users across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr Falade Adegoroye, has directed officers responsible for traffic enforcement to intensify patrols and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws.
The command warned that any motorcycle rider found violating traffic regulations, particularly traffic lights and other road signs, would be made to face the full weight of the law.
It also urged passengers to caution motorcycle riders against reckless riding and refusal to obey traffic rules, especially at traffic light points.
According to the command, passengers should decline any journey that puts their lives at unnecessary risk and report dangerous riding where necessary.
The police described road safety as a collective responsibility, urging all road users to exercise patience, discipline and respect for traffic regulations to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring the safety and security of all residents and road users in the state.
