The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), Prof. Kolawole Ogundipe, has commended members of staff for their commitment to quality healthcare delivery, urging greater cooperation to improve accountability and service delivery across the hospital.
Ogundipe gave the charge on Wednesday during a comprehensive inspection tour of the hospital’s facilities with members of the management team, where he stressed the need for the proper handling of government property.
The CMD advised staff to switch off and unplug equipment when not in use and ensure water taps were properly closed to prevent wastage, describing prudent management of public assets as a collective responsibility.
During the inspection, the management team visited wards, clinics and other service units, identifying electrical, mechanical, biomedical, clinical and medical challenges requiring attention. Ogundipe assured staff that the observed deficiencies would be addressed in phases to enhance healthcare service delivery.
The Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (Clinical Services), Dr. T. Ibrahim, said the inspection followed an earlier assessment of the hospital’s facilities, adding that the CMD’s visit was necessary to enable informed decisions on appropriate interventions.
Ogundipe also directed the Procurement Department and the Central Store to carry out a comprehensive inventory of hospital equipment to strengthen accountability, while requests for additional medical equipment from wards and clinics were documented for prompt procurement.
To improve patients’ comfort, the CMD disclosed that television sets with decoders had been procured and kept at the Central Store, directing that they be distributed immediately to the designated wards.
The management also identified construction defects and drainage-related issues in some hospital buildings and directed that they be addressed promptly to prevent further deterioration of the facilities.
The Directorate of Administration and the Works and Services Department were also directed to designate a proper junk yard for the safe disposal of damaged medical equipment, office furniture and other unserviceable items in line with best facility management practices.
The inspection was attended by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Olabisi Adeyemo; Deputy CMAC (Clinical Services), Dr. T. Ibrahim; Deputy CMAC (Special Duties), Dr. O. A. Adewumi; Chief of Staff to the CMD, Dr. Kamal Alabi; and other senior management staff of the hospital.
