The Ekiti State Police Command has warned transport unions and other interest groups against embarking on any unlawful protest capable of disrupting the peace and security of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, issued the warning following intelligence reports indicating that some members of transport unions were planning a protest on Monday, June 22.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the proposed action is allegedly aimed at challenging the current leadership structure within the transport unions operating in the state.

The command said available intelligence further suggested that the planned protest could degenerate into violence, public disorder and possible loss of lives if allowed to proceed unchecked.

Micheal stressed that any form of protest, gathering or unlawful assembly capable of threatening public peace and safety would not be tolerated by the command.

He described the prevailing peace and stability in Ekiti as a collective achievement that must be preserved by all residents and stakeholders, regardless of their interests or affiliations.

The commissioner urged all aggrieved parties to remain calm and channel their grievances through lawful and established mechanisms rather than actions that could jeopardise public order.

He warned that the police would take decisive action against any individual or group found engaging in activities capable of causing unrest or undermining security in any part of the state.

Micheal also appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant and security conscious, assuring them that the police and other security agencies were prepared to safeguard lives and property.

The commissioner encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or incidents to the nearest police formation, reaffirming the command’s commitment to maintaining peace, public order and the safety of all residents across Ekiti State. (NAN)
