The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr John Alake has advised Nigerian students to embrace vocational skills Acquisition programme of the institution.
Alake gave the advice on Friday during the Matriculation for the 2025/2026 academic session for fresh students of the Polytechnic held in Ado-Ekiti.
The rector said lack of vocational skills of students have caused the rising number of unemployed graduates who find it difficult to feed themselves because of lack skills.
Alake said the Federal Polytechnic was one of the best among it’s contemporaries that offers the best Skills Acquisition Programmes.
” I want to urged our newly admitted students to embrace skill acquisition vocational programme of the Polytechnic.
” This will help them to become employer of labour even when there is no formal jobs from the government.
” Currently, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti offers the best skills acquisition programmes in Nigeria and I want to assure you that any students who enrol for our numerous programmes will be happy,” he said.
The rector, who described matriculation as solemn academic commitment that symbolizes formal acceptance into intellectual culture of institution, urged the students to take their academic responsibilities seriously.
He encouraged them to develop personal reading plan tailored to their chosen career which will serve as a compass, guiding them to attain their goals.
” As students of Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti , you must take your academic responsibilities seriously.
” Our Polytechnic provides wide range of facilities and services designed to support your academic success and personal development.
“Your success is assured if you adhere to the guide lines and regulations of our institution,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 7,000 newly admitted students participated in the oath taking at the ceremony.
Also, overall Best Student Awards in both ND and HND for the 2024/ 2025 academic session were presented to the outstanding students by the Rector, Dr Alake during the Matriculation.
