A Professor of Computer Science, Prof. Dipo Akomolafe has urged registered professionals in Computer Science to work hard to become World problem solvers.
Akomolafe gave the advice on Wednesday during a lecture titled ” Empowering Tech Frontiers: Innovating for a Digital Nigeria” to mark the first Induction of B.Sc Computer Science graduates held in Ado-Ekiti.
The Don explained that computing technology is the science of converting the intellect of Man into machines to help man do his work effectively and efficiently.
He explained further that computer science simply means solving problems with technological innovations.
Prof. Akomolafe advised the graduates to develop themselves to master trending applications of Computing technologies such as Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning and Cyber Security among others.
The Don said Nigeria’s digital ecosystem has experienced remarkable growth , driven largely by a youthful population and increasing Internet penetration.
” I want to advise all graduating students of Department of Computer Science of Ekiti State University(EKSU) to be innovative.
” Innovation is not merely about invention, it is about the application of knowledge to solve real world problems for Nigeria.
” Innovation must be contextual , inclusive and sustainable.
” Solutions must reflect local realities wether in Agriculture, Healthcare or Education and digital transformation must reach rural communities not just elites.
” Computer scientist rule the World because because it is the only profession that is applicable to every human endeavours from birth to death.
” I want all the inductees to be good ambassador of Ekiti State University (EKSU),” he said .
Akomolafe, while congratulating the graduates said as a member of Computer Professional of Nigeria (CPN), they will be qualified to work in ICT firm, applied for contract from the government among others.
Earlier, The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU) Prof. Joseph Ayodele, welcome dignitaries to the first induction ceremony of graduating students of the Department of Computer Science.
Prof. Ayodele who was represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Prof.Oluwole Adebayo said the induction marks a significant milestone in the histories of all the stakeholders including the university and new Faculty of Physical Science.
He commended the academic and non-academic staff of the department of Computer Science for their dedication to teaching, mentorship and character development.
The Vice Chancellor, however urged the graduating students to uphold the highest standard of professionalism, integrity and innovation.
” To our dear inductees, today you step into a profession that is at the heart of global transportation.
” The world is driven by technology and you are now part of the force shaping that future, let your knowledge be guided not only by technical expertise but also by strong ethical values,” he said.
Similarly, the Acting Head of Computer Science Department, Dr Mary Yerokun, said it has been a long journey of vision , planning, nurturing and birthing of the inductees in professional world of Computing.
Yerokun said every certified professionals and practitioners must have a certain level of training in Computing before their own certification and license,
She noted that 71 students will be inducted in the category of graduates and six members from the M.SC class and three lecturers from the department.
Yerokun said certification is the proof of passage through the university but professionalism is proved only by induction and licensing
She, however, welcome the guest speaker Prof. Dipo Akomolafe(Deputy Vice Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) Okitipupa, Ondo state,
for honouring their invitation.
Also speaking, the Registrar of CPN, Mr Adebayo Adegbiji, congratulated the inductees and advised them to specialize and build skills to become a real blessings to themselves and to the society.
Adegbiji urged the graduates to work hard to improve their skills because technology is revolving.
He noted that being a graduate of computer science is just the beginning of a new phase in their career and they must be ready to decide their aea of specialisation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the CPN Registrar, Mr Adebayo Adegbiji administered the oath taking to the newly inductees and graduates of Computer Science Department.
An Award of Excellence for Best Graduating student was given to Glory Adeyemi, by the Registrar of CPN, Mr Adebayo Adegbiji while other numerous awards were presented to outstanding graduating students by Deans of Faculty of Life Science, Prof. James Oso.
