The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ekiti State Chapter, has urged women to embrace a culture of giving, mentorship and mutual support as a pathway to personal and collective advancement.

The Chairperson of the association in the state, Mrs Adewumi Ademiju, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti to mark the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD).

The statement was signed by the Secretary of the association, Mrs Funmi Falae.

Ademiju said the theme of the celebration, “Give to Gain”, underscored the importance of selflessness, collaboration and support among women in building stronger communities.

According to her, the theme highlights the value of mentorship, generosity and community support, noting that meaningful progress can be achieved when women deliberately invest in the growth and success of others.

She added that acts of giving, whether through knowledge sharing, mentorship, encouragement or creating opportunities, could generate a ripple effect that benefits individuals, families and society at large.

Ademiju commended women in Ekiti State and across the country for their resilience, dedication and contributions to national development despite the challenges they face.

She also urged women journalists to continue to use their platforms to advocate gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

The NAWOJ chairperson further called on governments, organisations and other stakeholders to create more opportunities for women in education, leadership and economic empowerment.

She equally encouraged women to remain united and supportive of one another in order to achieve sustainable development and social progress. (NAN)
