….call for caution due to consequences

A cross-section of senior medical experts globally has appealed to members of the public to stop attacking the Consultant, Urology Surgeon, Dr. Williams Imade, who carried out surgery on a teacher with a kidney defect that later resorted to complications at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

The experts, who reached out to our correspondent separately after studying the case, noted that the social media attack on the surgeon and his family was unnecessary.

According to them, the case of the patient is one of the rare situations in medicine that could make a professional look inept in the eyes of a right-thinking person.

One of the consultants who spoke with our correspondent from England, United Kingdom, confirmed that what happened to Dr. Imade can happen to any surgeon, especially in a facility with obsolete facilities like the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

Another Professor of Medicine confirmed knowing Dr. Imade and attested to his wealth of experience and expertise. He noted that the medical expert had conducted more than 72 surgeries in EKSUTH alone in the last one year and 11 nephrectomies across the state this year . He has done over 300 surgeries with success both in and outside Ekiti state this year .

The professor noted that the allegations of quackery, unprofessionalism, and other allegations by some aggrieved members of the public were untrue.

In a phone conversation, another medical expert who had worked at EKSUTH before traveling abroad confirmed that every doctor wants the best for their patients because the well-being of the patient is a plus for him.

She likened the case of doctor and patient to lawyer and client, saying that just as no lawyer ever prays to lose a case, doctors never pray to lose a patient.

She added that the life of every patient matters, hence doctors often inconvenience themselves and go out of their way to see to the well-being of patients.

The respondents expressed fear that doctors might begin to shy away from severe health cases because of the possible attack on them, and by such action, many patients would suffer.

They said: “As much as we sympathize with the patient, we are happy that help is in sight. However, we plead with Ekiti people to show understanding and desist from attacking Dr. Imade. Since this incident happened, Dr. Imade has also not enjoyed his life; his family has been attacked both online and offline.

As of today, Dr. Imade is one of the few urologists we have around, and as a matter of fact, he has conducted many successful surgeries and should not be judged by the current situation.”
