Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti has expressed sadness over the death of the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, Afuntade I.
Oyebanji, in a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, described the late monarch as a repository of knowledge, history and culture.
The governor said the deceased royal father was a selfless leader who dedicated his life to the service and development of his people and the state at large.
He hailed the late Oba Alabi for presiding over a peaceful and prosperous reign in Ilawe Ekiti and contributing significantly to the growth of Ekiti State.
Oyebanji noted that the monarch served meritoriously as Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers between 2019 and 2021.
According to him, the late traditional ruler led the council with wisdom, grace and dignity during his tenure.
The governor also noted that the monarch contributed immensely to governance through his valuable advice and wealth of experience as a former diplomat, particularly in conflict management and resolution.
He added that Oba Alabi was a respected national voice on issues affecting the country and was admired for his unique style of articulating his views at public fora.
Oyebanji described the monarch’s death as a monumental loss to Ilawe Ekiti and the entire state, saying that a huge vacuum had been created by his passing.
The governor prayed God to grant the family, traditional rulers, associates and the people of Ilawe Ekiti as well as Ekiti State the fortitude to bear the loss.
