A Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday remanded the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ado Ekiti Constituency I House of Assembly election, Ayodele Babatola, in custodial detention over an alleged rape case.

Babatola was arraigned by the Ekiti State Police Command through its Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the alleged rape of a woman, whose identity was not disclosed.

The police prosecutor, ASP A. Oriyomi, told the court that the alleged offence was committed on May 24, 2026, at a hotel in Ado Ekiti.

According to the prosecutor, the matter is still under investigation and legal advice is being awaited from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, ordered that the defendant be remanded pending the issuance of legal advice by the DPP.

The magistrate subsequently adjourned the case until June 26, 2026, for further proceedings.

Counsel to the defendant, Owoseni Ajayi, told journalists after the court session that efforts would be made to seek the defendant’s bail at the High Court.
