Ado-Ekiti, Jan. 29 — The Ekiti State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for January will hold on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.

Aluko-Ajisafe said the theme for the month’s exercise is “Clean Your Environment and Be Safe from Epidemic,” stressing that environmental cleanliness plays a critical role in preventing disease outbreaks and safeguarding public health.

According to her, there will be restriction of movement during the three-hour sanitation period, except for persons on essential duties and those with valid permits.

She urged residents to actively participate in the exercise to ensure a clean and healthy environment across the state.

The commissioner said market women are expected to clean their shops on Thursday, while government workers are to clean their offices on Friday, ahead of the main sanitation exercise on Saturday.

She added that Environmental Health Officers from the Ministry of Environment, LGAs, LCDAs, Non-Governmental Organisations and security agencies would be deployed to monitor compliance and enforce sanitation regulations.

Aluko-Ajisafe reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to environmental health, noting that sustainable sanitation requires collective responsibility from both government and residents.

She called on residents to comply with the sanitation schedule as part of their civic obligation, saying that a clean environment translates to a healthier population.
