Ekiti Assembly Confirms Justice Ogunmoye as Substantive Chief Judge

In a significant development, the Ekiti State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Justice Lekan Ogunmoye as the substantive Chief Judge of Ekiti State.

This decision follows the Governor, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s letter to the Assembly, seeking confirmation of Justice Ogunmoye’s nomination, who has been serving in an acting capacity since the passing of Hon. Justice John Adeyeye in November 2024.

During the plenary session, the lawmakers lauded Justice Ogunmoye’s exceptional leadership skills and extensive experience in the legal profession.

Hon. Tolulope Ige, Leader of the House, described Justice Ogunmoye as a seasoned administrator and diligent jurist with remarkable expertise.

Similarly, Hon. Babatunde Oke, Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters, expressed admiration for Justice Ogunmoye’s outstanding performance at the committee level, affirming his competence for the role.

In accordance with Section 271 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the House unanimously voted in favour of Justice Ogunmoye’s confirmation, with no dissenting voices.

Speaking with Journalists following his confirmation, Justice Ogunmoye outlined his vision for the Ekiti State Judiciary, emphasizing the importance of harnessing technology to drive progress and prioritizing the welfare of all judicial workforce .

It is noteworthy that the National Judicial Council (NJC), at its 109th meeting chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, had recommended Justice Ogunmoye’s appointment as Ekiti State Chief Judge on June 25, 2025.
