The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Nigeria has engaged critical stakeholders in Ekiti state on strategic plans to end Gender-Based Violence against women and girls.

Speaking with journalists, the deputy country vice president of FIDA Nigeria, Mrs Olubunmi Arajuwa said the meeting tagged “Annual Multi-stakeholders dialogue on implementation/status of gender sensitive legislations/framework preventing violence against women and girls”, was rolled out by the association to prevent women against violence.

She lamented the prevalence of GBV among women and girls, stressing that the discussion was fashioned out to design methods to reduce the menace to its bearest minimum.

On his part, the manager, programs and partnerships, Fikih Obaro added that the meeting was also meant to sensitize the stakeholders on how to improve on their approaches towards GBV cases.

Temilade Oluwadare also revealed that religious institutions in the state are already addressing GBV issues through sensitization and advocacy.

The permanent secretary of Ekiti State Ministry of Women Affairs, Omotayo Olatinlu, represented by Helen Akomolafe, commended FIDA Nigeria for the program, while also calling on women to speak up against GBV rather than dying in silence.
