In a move to position itself at the forefront of technological innovation in Nigeria, Ekiti State has unveiled its ambitious “Ekiti Startup Garage” (ESG) project.
The launch, coinciding with International Youth Day, aims at transforming the state into a thriving hub of innovation and digital transformation.
The Ekiti Startup Garage is envisioned as a dynamic ecosystem where ideas will flourish and evolve into impactful solutions.
State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji emphasised this vision, stating, “The Ekiti Startup Garage will serve as a dynamic and comprehensive digital ecosystem, where ideas will be born, nurtured, and transformed into impactful solutions that address local and global challenges.”
According to him, the Ekiti Startup Garage, was part of the state’s bold ambition to empower the youth of Ekiti.
” By providing state-of-the-art facilities, mentorship, and funding opportunities, it focuses on providing the amenities, resources, and access to turn innovative ideas into thriving businesses.
” The project aligns with the Ekiti State Government’s belief in the potential of its youth to drive economic growth and development”, he said.
Speaking further, the governor added, “Our administration remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the innovation ecosystem.
” We will continue to invest in infrastructure, education, and policies that foster a culture of innovation and critical thinking. Ekiti is open for Business and Safe for Business.”
Echoing the sentiment of creating a conducive environment for innovation, State Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Digital Economy, Oluwaseun Fakuade highlighted the state’s commitment, said Ekiti was out to do the magic
“Ekiti State is making a similar bet to global innovation hubs, prioritising innovation and science to unlock a brighter future, attract investors, create jobs with decent wages, and improve lives.”
It is recalled that the launch of the ESG, was part of Ekiti State’s broader efforts to foster innovation and support its technology ecosystem.
In just one year, the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Digital Economy has made significant strides, including launching the AfDB-backed Ekiti Knowledge Zone, partnering with CECADS for a $10 million innovation park, and initiating talks to establish 100 community tech hubs.
Fakuade appreciated governor Oyebanji’s support, highlighting his unwavering commitment to youth development and establishing the state as a significant talent and innovation hub.
He also revealed the governor’s approval of the Innovation Enterprise Support Fund, was a testament to the administration’s dedication to empowering young innovators in Ekiti.
The Ekiti Startup Garage is designed to be a collaborative platform, bringing together techpreneurs, researchers and developers, among others.
