Ekiti Governor’s wife calls on stakeholders to end Gender Based Violence#%
Wife of Ekiti State Governor Dr Olayemi Oyebanji has emphasised the need for stakeholders to promote effort at checking violence against girls and women.
The Governor’s wife stated this in Ado-Ekiti during an “Advocacy walk to round off the 16-days Activism of no Violence Against Women and Girls”.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Unite, Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls.
She identified some of the violence against Women and Girls to include; Raping, Female Genital mutilation and molestation through indiscriminate beating.
Dr Oyebanji who also berated the attitude of some parents whose children most especially girls were out of school, pointed out that such could give room for raping and subsequently destroy their future.
“It is unfortunate in Ekiti State that we now have incidences of rape, where father would even have canal knowledge of their girl child as such would no longer be tolerated.” she said.
The Governor’s wife reminded the residents of Ekiti that there were laws in place to deal with anyone culpable of such cases of rape, female Genital mutilation and beating of women, calling on stakeholders to report same to Ministry of Women Affairs or Governor’s wife office whenever it occurs.
She appealed to parents to monitor their children closely and secure their future through quality education so that they would not be victims of such circumstances.
The Advocacy walk which started at Fajuyi park in Ado Ekiti and terminated at post office attracted women from civil society groups, top politicians and government functionaries among others.
