The House of Assembly member-elect (APC – Ido-Osi II) in Ekiti, Yomi Ayorinde, has called for support of his constituents in order to ensure his success as lawmaker in the state.
Ayorinde made the call on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return from the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Ayobami Salami, in Ado-Ekiti.
NAN reports that Ayorinde polled 4,463 to defeat candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 589 and the Social Democratic Party (SDP)- 982 votes.
He, however, promised to give his best in accordance with the mandate given to him by the people.
The lawmaker-elect expressed gratitude to the people of his constituency for standing firm with him and the party through their votes in the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
He thanked them for ensuring that their votes count in his favour in spite of the “unwholesome activities of those that plotted to undermine and truncate the popular wishes of the people”.
Ayorinde, also former board member, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), thanked former Gov. Kayode Fayemi, his successor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, party leadership in the state, all leaders and members of APC in Ido-Osi Constituency II.
The assemblyman-elect, also the immediate past Chairman, State Urban Renewal Agency Board, lauded the contribitions of people of Ayetoro; Ilogbo; Osi and Usi-Ekiti for the opportunity given him to serve.
He said: “In spite of the change in the date of the elections, our people stood firm.
“This has shown that the people indeed have become, not only politically awaken, but defender of democracy.”
Ayorinde lauded the security agencies for responding promptly to series of complaints in some flashpoints during the election.
The assemblyman-elect further thanked traditional rulers, religious leader, market men and women, artisan, societies group and youths for their support before during and after the elections.
